MyHockeyRankings published its Week 2 Massachusetts rankings. Three lists matter to the classes we cover: 16U Tier 1 and 16U Tier 2 for the 2010s, and 15U Tier 1 for the 2011s. Forty-eight Massachusetts teams in total.
There is a new No. 1 at 16U Tier 1. Middlesex Islanders East (Prep) pass the Neponset Valley River Rats by six hundredths of a point, 94.48 to 94.42, after going 1-0-1 to the Rats' 1-1-0. Islanders East now sit first at both 16U Tier 1 and 15U Tier 1. The third column on each table shows the move against Week 1.
Eight teams per tier go to the Massachusetts state tournament. That makes every one of these lists a cut line, not just a ranking — and with a handful of weekends left, the margin at the line is thin in all three. Eighth sits 0.56 clear of ninth at 16U Tier 1, 0.58 at 16U Tier 2 and 0.56 at 15U Tier 1. Six teams are below the line at each 16U tier; twelve are below it at 15U.
