The Massachusetts 2010 class didn't just produce forwards for the USHL. Seven defensemen — 1 tendered and 6 drafted — were claimed in the Phase I Draft. Combined, they produced 129 points from the blueline during the 2025-2026 Massachusetts prep season. Six of the seven were USA Boys National 15 Team selections. Five made the 1st Team All-Massachusetts.

This is the deepest defensive class Massachusetts has sent to the USHL in the 2010 birth year. Here's every selection.

7 defensemen selected • 129 combined prep points • 6 USA National selections • 5 First Team All-Mass

Tendered

Logan Cotter Tendered
Green Bay Gamblers
St. Marks • Militia Hockey Club
22 pts (5G, 17A) — #3 scoring D in class
Tendered USA National 15 1st Team All-Mass Boys Festival

Cotter to Green Bay was the only Massachusetts defenseman tendered. The Gamblers gave up a first-round pick to secure him — the ultimate compliment for a blueliner. At 22 points from St. Marks, he was the #3 scoring defenseman in the entire 2010 class, behind only Fishbone (29) and Ware (25). A USA National 15 selection and 1st Team All-Mass. Green Bay didn't want to risk losing him in the draft, so they locked him in.

Drafted

Sam Fishbone Round 5
Sioux Falls Stampede
St. Sebastian's • Minutemen Flames
29 pts (6G, 23A) — #1 scoring D in class
1st Team All-Mass Boys Festival

Fishbone was the top-scoring defenseman in the entire Massachusetts 2010 class at 29 points — and the only non-USA National player on the 1st Team All-Mass. He earned his spot purely on production. From the St. Sebastian's blueline, he quarterbacked the power play and led all defensemen in assists with 23. Sioux Falls got the most productive blueliner in the state.

Ryan Porter Round 7
Sioux Falls Stampede
Dexter Southfield • Minutemen Flames
11 pts (2G, 9A)
2nd Team All-Mass Boys Festival
Nicholas Ware Round 8
Omaha Lancers
Belmont Hill • Neponset Valley River Rats
25 pts (0G, 25A) — #2 scoring D in class • Pure playmaker
USA National 15 1st Team All-Mass Boys Festival

Ware is one of the most unique defensemen in the class. Twenty-five points — all assists. Zero goals, 25 helpers. He doesn't need to shoot to dominate. From the Belmont Hill blueline, he was the second-highest scoring defenseman in Massachusetts and a USA National 15 selection. Omaha got a defenseman who makes everyone around him better.

Brodie Anderson Round 9
Dubuque Fighting Saints
Cushing Academy • Minutemen Flames
12 pts (3G, 9A)
USA National 15 1st Team All-Mass Boys Festival NEPSAC Champion
Brendan Martin Round 11
Sioux City Musketeers
St. Sebastian's • Neponset Valley River Rats
13 pts (2G, 11A)
USA National 15 1st Team All-Mass Boys Festival
Tyler Poti Round 15
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders
Winchendon • Islanders Hockey Club
17 pts (1G, 16A)
2nd Team All-Mass Boys Festival NEPSAC Champion

Porter and Fishbone to Sioux Falls gives the Stampede a Massachusetts D-pair. Both are Flames players who spent the season skating together at the highest club level. That chemistry doesn't need to be built — it already exists. Anderson's NEPSAC Championship at Cushing adds a winner's pedigree to the Dubuque blueline. Poti's 16 assists from Winchendon and his own NEPSAC Championship ring make him a steal in Round 15.

The numbers tell the story. The 7 Massachusetts defensemen who went to the USHL combined for 129 prep points — an average of 18.4 points per blueliner. Six were USA National 15 selections. Five were 1st Team All-Mass. Two were NEPSAC Champions. This isn't a thin group that got picked for potential — this is a loaded defensive class that produced at the highest level and got recognized for it.

Add these 7 to the NTDP selections (Queally and Lee play forward, but the point stands) and the 12 forwards drafted, and the Massachusetts 2010 class has sent 21 skaters to Tier I programs — not counting Will Torres in goal. The blueline is covered.
