The 2026 Boys National 16 Camp wrapped this morning in Amherst. Every MA Prep 2010 who put on skates this week — 18 skaters and 2 goaltenders, from 10 different camp teams — was being evaluated for one thing above all others: the U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team roster and its trip to the Four Nations Tournament.
The announcement was scheduled for 12:15 PM ET in Sky Box 1 at the Northtown Center. As of publication, the public roster has not yet been posted at teamusa.usahockey.com/u175nations. When it does, Part 2 of this article will follow with the MA names.
In the meantime — here's what the Under-17 Select Team is, how it works, and why the past week mattered.
The Pipeline
USA Hockey's national development structure runs through a series of tryouts, camps, and selections. For the 2010 birth year — the group at the center of MA prep this cycle — the ladder looks like this:
The 4 Nations announcement is the endpoint of an 18-month process that started with regional tryouts back in April 2025. The camp that just ended is the last on-ice evaluation before selection.
What Is the U17 Four Nations Tournament?
The Four Nations Tournament is USA Hockey's fall showcase for the Under-17 Select Team. It's a round-robin format between four national teams — traditionally including Team USA plus a rotating mix of European hockey nations.
Per USA Hockey's own event page, the 2025 tournament ran August 5-9, 2025 at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. Team USA finished 2nd, losing the championship game to Czechia. Other teams in the field were Slovakia and Switzerland. Team USA's tournament record was 3-0-0-1 (Regulation Win, OT Win, OT Loss, Regulation Loss).
The 2026 tournament will be held August 13–19, 2026 in Czechia — an exhibition game in Pardubice against HC Dynamo Pardubice U18 on August 13, followed by round-robin play against Czechia, Switzerland, and Slovakia at Rocknet Arena in Chomutov. The championship game is scheduled for August 19. So this year, the U.S. Under-17 Men's Select Team will be traveling overseas to compete.
Why the Past Week Mattered
Every player named to the 2026 U17 Select Team was evaluated at the Boys National 16 Camp in Amherst. From USA Hockey's own program book:
That's it. There's no separate audition, no other pool. The 216 players who reported to Amherst on June 25 were the pool from which the U17 Select Team gets built. Five days of pool play plus the All-Star Game were the audition.
For the 18 MA Prep 2010s who skated in Amherst this week, that meant every shift was under evaluation. Their combined 45 points across the week — 6 more than the same MA group's 2025 NAT 15 Camp total — is the case they've made.
How the U17 Select Team Differs From the NTDP
An important distinction for parents and scouts: the U17 Select Team is not the same as the National Team Development Program (NTDP). The NTDP is a year-round U17/U18 residency program based in Plymouth, MI where selected players train full-time and play a competitive schedule. It's a separate, ongoing selection process.
The U17 Select Team is a short-term national team assembled specifically for the Four Nations Tournament. Many players named to it are also NTDP or on NTDP paths — but many are not. Being named to the U17 Select roster is an honor and a scouting credential, but it doesn't require or replace the year-round NTDP selection.

The official roster will be posted on the USA Hockey Under-17 Four/Five Nations page: teamusa.usahockey.com/u175nations. USA Hockey also typically posts to @USAHockey on X and their Instagram / Facebook accounts.
