State of Hockey publishes rankings, statistics and analysis about youth hockey players. This page states plainly what that is and what it is not.

Rankings Are Opinion
Our ranking boards are the editorial judgment of one writer, built from public data using a method stated in each article. They are not:
- Official rankings of any league, governing body or organization
- Scouting evaluations or projections of a player’s ceiling
- A measure of any player’s ability, character, work ethic or worth
- A prediction of who will be drafted, committed or recruited
Players omitted from a board are not being ranked unfavorably. Boards are limited in length, limited to players within our published scope, and limited by what data exists.
Statistics
Statistics are compiled from public sources and are only as complete and accurate as those sources. They are unofficial. For official records, contact the school, league or governing body. Our sourcing and known limitations are set out in the Data Methodology.
Club Affiliations
Club rosters for these age groups are set through spring tryouts but are not formally published. Club affiliations shown on this site reflect our own tracking unless a page states they have been confirmed against a published roster. Articles relying on club affiliation carry a notice saying so.
College Commitments
Commitments reported here are verbal. A verbal commitment is not a signed National Letter of Intent, is not binding on the player or the program, and can change. We report them as publicly announced and update the record when it changes.
Not Recruiting Advice
Nothing on this site is advice to any player or family about schools, clubs, junior teams, college programs, advisors, agents, eligibility or timing. We are not scouts, recruiters, advisors or agents, and we have no relationship with any program that would let us influence a recruiting outcome. Decisions about a player’s path should be made with that player’s family, coaches and school, and with reference to the current NCAA and league rules, which change.
NCAA Rules
Where we describe NCAA Division I recruiting windows, we do so as general context. Rules change and are applied to individual circumstances. Nothing here is a substitute for the current published NCAA rules or guidance from a compliance office.
